June 27, 2016Today we had Brian P. From California. He found us on trip advisor, months before he arrived in Fort Lauderdale . He was interested in trolling for tunas and king mackerel. He bottom fished for many years in California and wanted to try something different. So we used bonita strips and spoons on planner boards, which bring the bait anywhere from 25-45ft deep.
We started out that day trolling in around 75ft of water, with no luck at all. Hearing about a small bite to the south towards Hollywood, we began to head towards the bite. After about an hour and a half of catching nothing, we marked a few blips on the sonar and before you know we had our first strike. It was a large Bonita, and finally we found the school. Mixed in the school were smaller size Black Fin Tuna which make great bait, and also good eats.
We fished the school for 45 mins, and caught most of the fish on the long planner with a blue spoon. We also caught a couple on the surface with pink dinks. Then we headed back to dock, our group had somewhere to be, so we made it to the dock at 11am.
