July Wrap Up Report: Fort Lauderdale’s Biggest Fish
July 30, 2024Good Hit Sport Fishing Report: Late Summer Slam
September 9, 2024Flashback to a few weeks ago during the absolute banger that is Summer 2024: We had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Cody, Grant with Mustad and Captain Mike. Mustad is our favorite hook company who we work closely with to keep the proper tackle on boat. Captain Cody is a Friend from Key West who is also a guide out of Stock Island.
On this shoot we were looking for Sailfish, Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi and Kingfish. We did this shoot in May, which is an awesome Time to fish. We planned to do some kite fishing, which is the best way to target these fish that time of year. Using Goggle Eyes, Threadfin Herring and cigar minnows. We also put out a few flat lines on spinning rods, to increase our chances of multiple fish, and different presentation.
All of our equipment we use for this style of fishing is light tackle. Using 20lb line for the kite rods, with 40lb leader with a small piece of wire for the fish with teeth. We prefer to use circle hooks for all set ups for the best hook up ratio. We caught most of the fish on the kite on this day, on threadfin herring which is our favorite bait. We did get lucky at the end of the trip with a large wahoo and blackfin tuna on the flat lines which really put the icing on the cake for this shoot. The stars aligned perfectly and we caught all targeting species in one trip. This does not happen everyday on Good Hit, but this is where preparation meets opportunity we get it done.
Grant from Mustad was very pleased with all the cool content he was able to film. On this day we caught 2 sailfish, one silky shark, one kingfish, one Mahi, one wahoo, and a blackfin tuna. We capitalized on almost every bite we had on this trip. Mustad Hooks kept all the fish on the line, and with our awesome crew we landed all bites.
