January 3, 2017Today we have the pleasure of taking Matt from Califonia Fishing. He was only a party of one, but really wanted to catch his dream fish, a Mahi Mahi. Being based out of Fort Lauderdale Beach, we got a decent start on the rest of the fleet. Leaving Bahia Mar around 7:30am, we rigged our lines for trolling and live bait.
The seas were flat on that Thursday, I would say around 1 foot or less. We started trolling in 120 ft of water, directly off the Marriot Beach Resort. Within 2 minutes of lines in We Were On! Hooking 2 King Mackerel at the same time, we began to work the area. Pink and Green was the color of the day, getting bites from 75′ to 200′. After catching our fill of King fish, we headed offshore for search of Mahi Mahi. All Matt wanted to catch a dolphin fish, he was talking about the fish the entire morning . Looking for debris, weed lines, and or current rips. After trolling for 35 minutes, our group then saw something small in distance. At that moment the Good Hit was in 600′ of water, then we began to troll towards the object. After a quarter mile we began to approach debris, it was a 2 x 4 that has been floating for months. Hooking up immediately to a good size Dolphin.
Seeing the nice fish jumping, we began casting live baits at the board! Hooking up to number #2 and #3 MAhi Mahi for the day. Catching 2 out of the 3 fish that we saw, we called it a day!
Pushing the throttles up and calm conditions, we were approaching 35 KTS not your average Charter Boat Speed?. Hitting the dock around 12:30, another Great Trip Aboard the Good Hit with Captain Mike.
